The European Vanity Fair fashion jury: who were the best dressed on the first red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival (according to our experts)

Pierre Groppo, France 🇫🇷

My favorite look: Julia Garner

Why… Choosing black is not always easy, but on this first day Julia Garner stole the scene with this dress from the right adherence, with a wise game of drapes. Without a doubt, the actress knows that a monochromatic dress is the best choice to counter with the red carpet, and the adherent cut adds a further touch of elegance and sobriety that is missing from too voluminous clothes. The Easter earrings Bruni add a further touch of light decidedly spot on.

The opinion of 🇮🇹: Well, it would have been my second choice. I agree, the game of transparencies, sparkles and drapes is sumptuous. But my question is: will we still remember this look the day? I don’t think.

The opinion of 🇪🇸: I have a soft spot for the star of Ozarkwhich on the red carpet is very good at finding that rare balance between audacity and elegance. The fact that you wear a long -sleeved dress only increases my sympathy for her. I hope it gives the example and that its colleagues discover how chic, sexy and appropriate a long -sleeved evening dress.

Why… Always prize who dares, those who do not follow the most straight and safe road, those who still know how to surprise, grace: the president of the jury not only goes against the current by opting for trousers, but even ventures a sort of veil/hood that makes it solemn and mischievous at the same time. A MISSE perhaps not for all. For her, definitely yes!

The opinion of 🇪🇸: With his Dior Couture, the jury president made a fashion declaration: trousers and cloaks, business and glamor, seriousness and entertainment. If someone had doubts about who he commands, now he knows.

The opinion of 🇫🇷: Juliette Binoche breaks all the codes while remaining very classic, with an outfit that suggests the Vestale Virgin, independent woman and even a knight worthy of a fashion version of The three musketeers.

My favorite look: Rossy de Palma

Why… Exceptional actress, Beniamina of Almodóvar and authentic Woman ShowRossy de Palma is a national icon, one of those cases for which it was worth what was said of Lola Flores (“he cannot dance, he cannot sing, but it is not to be missed”): everything he does well, and cannot be done without looking at it and admiring it when he enters the scene (which also includes the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival, one of his numerous and heterogeneous natural habitats). For his first appearance to the 78th edition of the kermessethe Spanish actress opted for a double-breasted cady dubbing dress with duchese satin and lateral branches of the French brand. A way to respect the new protocol of the manifestation in terms of clothing, which prohibits nakedness and too flashy models, as well as to give new life to a classic and infallible garment (smoothing) which, like long sleeve or navy blue color, will never appreciate enough.

The opinion of 🇫🇷: There is both charm and humor in this choice, which is inspired by the evening dress with dizzying slit as to the men’s tuxedo. Another look Full Black of great effect, expertly completed by any type of accessory, from shoes to earrings, but without exaggerating.

The opinion of 🇮🇹: Smoking – and its variants – are always a good, indeed excellent idea. But once and for all I would leave the fan in the drawer: I understand that it is useful, but from there to turn into a flamenco dancer is just a moment. Olé.
