«The Exorcist», a new trilogy will follow up the film

Not one, but three sequels. The Exorcist, released in the cinema in the first half of the seventies, will have a new development, different from the one that the television series has granted it. Universal, according to what was reported by the New York Times, would have acquired the distribution rights of one for four hundred million dollars first film, directed by David Gordon Green. Still untitled, it should be a prelude to an unpublished trilogy, designed to bring back to the big screen (also) Ellen Burstyn, the mother of the original possessed.

Burstyn, whose role earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress in 1974, should serve as a bridge between the old and the new. According to the first rumors that emerged, the sequel should include a new case of demonic possession. A new child, a boy, would have fallen into the Devil’s trap, and the father of these – interpreted, it seems, by Leslie Odom Jr. – would have decided to ask for the help of Burstyn, once again face and voice of Chris MacNeil.

The film, the first of the three, is expected to enter the filming phase soon to complete post-production in 2023.
