The extent of collective dismissal damage to Enem is unknown, says ES secretary

Although the Ministry of Education (MEC) guarantees that the schedule of the National Secondary Education Examination (Enem) will follow normally, even after collective dismissal at Inep, the application of the test may be at risk. The assessment is by Vitor de Angelo, president of the National Council of Secretaries of Education (Consed) and state secretary of Education in Espírito Santo.

In an interview with CNN, Angelo said that the request for the dismissal of more than 30 employees of the agency responsible for carrying out the Enem shows management problems by the MEC. However, he reinforces that it is not yet possible to assess the impact of recent events on the realization of Enem 2021.

“We need to recognize that we are not exactly clear on the extent of damage that this collective dismissal can cause. On the one hand, the ministry has been reaffirming that the Enem will take place without any difficulty, that may be what happens, after all, some processes have already started”, he said.

“On the other hand, it is not possible to imagine that such a large number of people have resigned from these positions and that does not make any difference”, he added.

For the president of Consed, the collective dismissal of Inep’s employees is a “sign” of something wrong with the organization. “This highlights a problem in a State body that should be valued for its importance in the country’s educational area.

“If Inep were left free, it would certainly work with a lot of quality. To see a situation like this, it is because the way it is being managed is creating some difficulties for carrying out its work”, he said.
