The Family Act is law: this is what it provides

With the definitive yes of the Senate the Family Act it has become law. It is a package of general principles and measures aimed at promoting shared parenting and reconciliation between family and work, especially for women. The consensus at Palazzo Madama was high: 193 votes in favor, 10 against and 15 abstentions.

The powers assigned to the government by the new law include the strengthening of rules aimed at supporting the parenting with parental leave up to the age of 14 of the children. The objectives also include the independence and financial autonomy of young people. The executive must review the paternity and maternity leave regulations and introduce tax deductions or bonuses for education-related expenses.

Tax concessions are provided for rentals of the main residence or for the purchase of the first home. There are also those for the housing autonomy of disabled people.

It also includes reward measures for employers who make policies to promote harmonization between private life and work such as flexible working. A portion of the allocation of the Guarantee Fund for small and medium-sized enterprises will go to the start-up of the new female businesses and to support their business for the first two years. There are also prizes for those who encourage female work in the southern regions.

The funds should come from the reform of tax deductions and the rationalization of bonusesmost already finished insingle and universal check which replaces the personal income tax deductions on dependent children. It can be requested by families of Italian citizens or with residence permits, residing in Italy, with children up to 21 years of age.
