Near the Galapagos Islands, the famous Darwin’s Arch collapsed into the sea. The Ministry of Environment and Water Resources of Ecuador reports this on Facebook.
As noted, the message about the collapse of the Darwin Arch was received on May 17. It collapsed due to natural erosion.
The arch was located less than a kilometer from Darwin Island in the north of the archipelago, the ministry said. It is made of stone and was once part of the island.
The place at the arch is considered one of the best in the world for diving and observing schools of sharks and other marine life, the department added.

The Galapagos Islands are an archipelago in the Pacific Ocean, located about 1000 km west of Ecuador. They are believed to have been discovered by a Spanish priest Thomas de Berlanga in 1565.
The islands are famous for their rich flora and fauna. British naturalist Charles Darwin examined them in 1835.
