The pre-election campaign in Italy has officially begun. The Brothers of Italy are ahead, while the Democratic Party follows. At 40% the undecided.
Last night in Italy the procedure for submitting the ballots for the parliamentary elections of September 25 was completed. The polls continue to show Italy’s far-right Adelphia as the favorite with 24% of the vote intention, while in second place is the center-left Democratic Party with 23%.
Overall, the conservative faction (Forza Italia, Lega and Adelfia of Italy) according to various polls continues to maintain a lead of 12 percentage points over the center-left alliance.
Shocking publications by the president of the far-right party
Giorgia Meloni, president of the Brothers of Italy, will officially launch today from Ancona her party’s election campaign with the slogan “We are ready to get Italy back on its feet”. All these days there was no shortage of the well-known aggressive, extreme strategy: In just 24 hours, the Italian far-right managed to provoke a series of reactions for two different cases:
Initially, Meloni posted a video of a young immigrant girl being raped by an asylum seeker. The images were first uploaded to the internet by the website of a well-known newspaper, but its move to share them itself was criticized by all the other parties. She then included young people suffering from anorexia and bulimia among the people who, in her view, “do not respect the rules of our society”.
According to most commentators, while abroad the 45-year-old politician is trying to send the message that she has nothing to do with the neo-fascist and far-right space, while at the same time she is still dangerously turning a blind eye to her ultra-conservative voters.
At 40% the undecided voters
In the next four weeks, a polarization of the political confrontation is expected, especially between the center-left Democratic Party and the extreme right. “You have to choose between us or the deep right,” insists former prime minister and Democrat secretary Enrico Letta.
Gallop insists that 40% of Italians have not yet decided who they will trust to govern the country. The election campaign will therefore have as its main objective this valuable – and huge – pool of votes.
