The US Department of Justice announced the closure of the Rydox marketplace, which sold stolen personal information, access devices and other tools for crypto-crimes and fraud for cryptocurrency.

To buy or sell products and services, Rydox users were required to register an account and deposit cryptocurrency into the account, which was then moved into a crypto wallet controlled by platform administrators.

According to the investigation, an FBI employee registered an account with Rydox, made a cryptocurrency deposit in the equivalent of $300, and purchased about 40 “data packages” containing personal and financial information of certain individuals. The package included potential victims’ full names, email addresses, residential addresses, phone numbers, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers and more.

It is reported that the FBI, in cooperation with law enforcement agencies in Albania and Kosovo, detained three suspects, two of whom will be extradited to the United States.

In coordination with the FBI, the Royal Malaysian Police seized the servers of the Rydox trading platform in Kuala Lumpur, and also seized approximately $225,000 worth of cryptocurrency assets from accounts controlled by the defendants.

The day before, Bitcoin ATM operator Byte Federal reported unauthorized access and theft of personal data of 58,000 network users from one of the company’s servers.
