The Federal Tax Service proposed to allow Russian companies to make payments in cryptocurrencies with external contractors for export and import transactions.
According to Izvestia, the Federal Tax Service showed such an initiative in its comments on the draft law of the Ministry of Finance “On digital currency”. And, what is most interesting, officials of the Ministry of Finance may well support the idea. True, it needs additional elaboration and discussion, as well as, possibly, separate regulatory documents.
“Legal entities are allowed to pay for goods, work, services under foreign trade agreements and receive proceeds from foreign entities in digital currency,” the FTS notes to the bill.
Such an opportunity, representatives of the Federal Tax Service believe, will allow Russian companies to intensify trade with friendly countries. In addition, this will make it possible to abandon the use of the US dollar in international settlements. At the same time, Russian companies will need to buy cryptocurrencies on licensed cryptocurrency exchanges.
As Maxim Bashkatov, Head of the Legal Development Department of the Center for Strategic Research, noted, in most countries there are no direct prohibitions on payments in crypto-currencies in the legislation. However, such calculations can be regarded by Western countries as an attempt to circumvent sanctions against Russia. But for companies that are not on the sanctions lists, this is a really possible and convenient option for settlements with foreign partners.
Recently, the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation presented an updated bill “On Digital Currency”, which clarifies the regulation of mining, turnover and taxation of cryptocurrencies.
