The Ferragnez, the series: Chiara Ferragni and Fedez succeed in the impossible

In a famous episode of Cursed Stories, Franca Leosini asked Sabrina Misseri to describe herself “without making the saint”: a risk that all characters who accept to tell about themselves through a documentary, a reality show or any other product that concern them run. The nice thing about The Ferragnez is that it does not build any holy card, but manages to give it back to the spectators a cross-section of Chiara Ferragni and Fedez’s life as a couple much more intimate and profound than their posts on Instagram do. In the first five episodes available on Prime Video, Chiara and Federico show, in fact, the fragility, tenderness and nervousness of any family, and it is interesting to note that a couple we thought we knew everything about managed to surprise us with things we never imagined. . Like the fact that the balance of the house depends a lot on Federico’s mood swings, or the fact that Chiara tries in every way to find a solution to fix things because, since her parents separated, she has always tried to be the staple not only for her younger sisters, but for the parents themselves.

Beyond the Stories and posts shared almost everywhere, from Instagram to TikTok, The Ferragnez he digs deeply to tell what is hidden there where the smartphone camera does not reach: the result returns a painting that is anything but glossy, capable of bringing us closer to the most intimate heart of the couple, portrayed in its strength, but also in its weakness. Through the red thread of the couples therapy – an ingenious idea to guide the story and act as a glue for the different frameworks of docureality – we discover, in fact, how different Chiara and Federico are and how their differences fit together the pieces of the puzzle without smoothing the corners or intervening with an external hand. The exercises suggested by the therapist – such as that of being the star and the groupie of the other, fulfilling every wish of the counterpart – demonstrate how strong their personalities are and how difficult it is to find a harmony with the character of the partner, which in Chiara’s case is translates into extreme positivity and in the case of Fedez it corresponds to a more passive and cautious attitude linked to the experiences that have most marked him in life. Last but not least, the betrayal by many friends and colleagues that led him to be colder due to the fear of being stabbed.

The courtly queer following the couple is almost a burden for Federico: he would prefer a private dimension that includes only Chiara and Leone, and this also applies to his family, which is described as apparently colder than Chiara’s. , more expansive and eager for contact. For the rest, The Ferragnez shows us a bit of everything: from Federico who struggles to get out of bed on bad days to Chiara who suffers at the idea of not being able to go out for dinner; from Leone who runs around the house because he is afraid of the seamstress who has to take his measurements to Federico’s parents, Tati and Franco, who quarrel about turning the omelette or not; from Chiara’s mother, Marina, who writes a letter by hand to her daughter inviting her to recognize the beauty of her life at moments that we viewers have only experienced from the outside like the spoiler of Fedez’s song in Sanremo. Perhaps that is one of the moments that tells us more about the fragility of a particularly superstitious artist – he relies not only on the cards of grandmother Ciana, but also to the advice of a numerologist – who can’t stand the idea that for his mistake he has to pay a team that is not to blame. Her tears and the reassurance of Chiara at her side are the most uplifting image of a series that could have stopped at the surface but which, with courage, went to the bottom with the same surgical intrusiveness used by Matt Tyrnauer to shoot that masterpiece it is Valentino: The Last Emperor (you can find it on Prime). The danger “santino” is averted, and for us who feared that the series – produced by Banijay Italia – would have curled many of the contents already seen and already told on social networks is a very welcome Christmas gift.
