The new large fiber optic project of the latest generation of PPC, was presented by the Deputy CEO of the company, Mr. Alexandros Paterakis, at the 5th Infrastructure & Transport Conference, ITC 2022.
The project, as noted by Mr. Paterakis, has already started as a pilot from Peristeri, where in the summer 15 thousand households and businesses will be connected to the Fiber to the Home (FttH) network, at high speeds.
At the same time, PPC is in the final stage of preparing supplies for another 500 thousand connections, in ten additional Municipalities, with the works starting in the immediate future.
According to the new business plan prepared by the Group’s management, the company will connect more than 3 million homes and businesses in less than four years.
These connections will be made by air, through the existing PPC network, and their development is much cheaper and faster than the underground connections, as no digging and special permits are required.
The services that the company will offer include the provision of wholesale connections at speeds up to 1 Gbps, but also new features, such as the necessary 5G fiber optic interface.
This is a completely achievable goal, since as Mr. Paterakis explained: “the construction and management of networks is in the DNA of PPC, an activity that knows better than anyone else in Greece. In addition, it will utilize its existing infrastructure – the extensive network of HEDNO throughout the country – which allow the development of fiber optics faster and more economically than the traditional method of underground passage “.
The open access networks manufactured by PPC allow both the basic telecommunication providers and the alternative ones to offer more competitive service packages, as their costs to reach the final customer are significantly reduced.
“Big winners will be consumers, households and businesses across the country who will enjoy faster and cheaper internet,” said PPC’s Deputy CEO.
In addition, the entry of PPC in fiber optics enhances competition and acts as an accelerator for the development of the necessary broadband infrastructure that is a prerequisite for the country to meet the goals of digital transition, said Mr. Paterakis.
“With its own forces, PPC contributes substantially to the implementation of the national and European planning for the digital transformation, so that our country finally ceases to be a tail in the digital indicators in Europe.”
