Roman Isaev, a member of the Association of Cinema Owners (AVK), the head of the Russian representative office of Сomscore Corporation, said that up to half of cinemas in Russia could close by summer in the absence of government support measures.
Now almost all cinemas in the country have already switched to work with a reduced number of halls and a reduced working day due to the lack of a sufficient number of films. Earlier it was reported that cinemas would show Russian films of past years, Soviet and foreign classics, as well as Bollywood, South Korean and Latin American films.

In Chelyabinsk cinemas, after the cancellation of Hollywood premieres, they began re-screening the films “Brother” and “Brother-2”. Further, other domestic films are planned to be shown on large screens: “Office Romance”, “Blind Man’s Bluff”, “Salyut-7”, “It Doesn’t Hurt Me”.
Some cinemas may begin to close now. And, unfortunately, we are already seeing cases when one of the federal networks closed one of its cinemas in St. Petersburg, these cases will now increase. Cinemas will be closed, unfortunately, and in the future, by the summer, if no drastic measures are taken, up to half of the cinemas in Russia may close.
