The first 16 Belgian citizens to flee Afghanistan arrived in Amsterdam

The first 16 Belgian citizens to leave Afghanistan by Dutch aircraft arrived at Amsterdam, as reported by today’s Belgian press.

According to the Athenian Macedonian News Agency, the Dutch C-17 transport aircraft landed in Amsterdam-Schipoll on the night of Wednesday, August 19th. Sixteen people with Belgian passports were on the flight from Kabul, as well as 35 Dutch, two Germans and two Britons, according to the Dutch Ministry of Defense. The plane, which made a stopover in Tbilisi, was originally scheduled to arrive at 21.15, but the flight was delayed.

The French-language newspaper LeSoir notes that the identities of the passengers who left Kabul on the Dutch plane have not yet been verified.

“The situation at Kabul airport is particularly chaotic and those on board are said to have declared their nationality by show of hands,” the Center for Foreign Affairs Crisis said. Another Belgian was repatriated from Afghanistan by a French plane.

In addition, two Belgian C-130 military aircraft are expected to land in the Afghan capital on the morning of Friday, August 20. Belgium wants to repatriate Belgian nationals and their families, as well as Afghan officials such as interpreters and women’s rights activists in the country.
