About a year ago, USB-IF announced that the next generation of USB-C cables could double the power to 240W. This will be enough to abandon proprietary power supplies for almost all laptops. Now such cables have begun to appear from some manufacturers. In particular, Club3D announced the first USB-C 2.1 cables with power up to 240 W and data transfer rates up to 40 Gbps.
So far, there are no gadgets designed to use 240W of power via USB-C, nor chargers. It is for this reason that it will not work now to get any advantage from these cables. However, this is only a matter of time.
Club3D has three cable models up to 240 W (48 V / 5 A): the simplest CAC-1573 (2 m) is used for power and data transmission at 480 Mbps, CAC-1575 (2 m) with bandwidth 20 Gb/s and 4K/60 video output. The top version of the CAC-1576 cable (1 m) has a bandwidth of 40 Gb/s and can output video in 8K/60 format.
These cables are clearly labeled to help you understand what features they offer. The maximum length of the first USB-C cables up to 240 W is currently limited to 2 m, but longer options should appear in the future. The price has not been announced yet.
