The first batch of domestic Baikal-M processors was finally brought to Russia from Taiwan

CNews reported that the first large batch of Baikal-M commercial processors arrived in Russia. The Taiwanese company TSMC acted as a contract manufacturer of domestic chips developed by Baikal Electronics. They were supposed to be in Moscow early this summer, but were delayed four months due to supply chain problems.

The package weighing 66 kg contains 5 thousand microcircuits based on the ARM architecture. This is less than ordered, but from 2022 the number of processors in batches will increase. The general director of the Baikal Electronics enterprise, Andrey Evdokimov, hopes that from January-February the batches will include 10-15 thousand chips per month, and even some reserves will appear. He did not disclose buyers due to commercial secrets, but noted that the first batches of Baikal-M were booked for priority projects and partners who made an advance.

Earlier, iRU announced plans to launch mass production of mini-PCs and monoblocks based on Baikal-M. The company intended to carry out the first deliveries in the first quarter of next year.

Baikal-M is a single-chip system consisting of eight 64-bit Cortex-A57 processors with a clock speed of up to 1.5 GHz, as well as a Mali-T628 graphics accelerator with a frequency of up to 700 MHz. The power consumption of the system does not exceed 30 W. The chipset has two DDR3 / 4 memory controllers, supports PCIe Gen3, hardware video decoding up to 4K, two video outputs and four Ethernet network interfaces.
