Today, March 23, Microsoft is releasing Windows 11 Build 22581 to Insiders in both the Dev and Beta channels. It’s notable for being the first build of Windows 11’s biggest update, version 22H2, available to testers in the beta channel. This was reported by the XDA Developers portal.
Beta testers will have access to a large number of innovations, many of which are focused on tablets. For example, the new optimized taskbar – it minimizes to the minimum size when no keyboard or mouse is connected to the device, and displays only system information (battery and Wi-Fi status, time and sound icon). Swipe up to open the full taskbar. Swiping up specifically on the minimized taskbar will open Start – the reverse action will close it, and swiping right from the open menu will open the full list of applications. A three-finger swipe to the side toggles between open windows, and a downward swipe minimizes all open windows.
The taskbar also received the option to drag and drop files between applications on it – the same feature that Windows 11 was deprived of at launch.
The Start menu has received some important improvements. Now you can create and rename folders in the pinned labels segment. Also, users can now choose what they want to see: more pinned apps or recommended items.

“Explorer” has also been improved. It got a preview of the files inside a folder before opening it, and the quick access page now lets you pin recent files to the top of the list. In addition, the functionality of the context menu has been expanded, it has received part of the functionality from the menu called by the “Show more options” button.
The Task Manager has also been updated to be more consistent with the Windows 11 interface, and it also received dark theme support. Separately, it is worth noting the updated volume and brightness sliders that appear when you press the corresponding buttons on the keyboard – they have been updated for the first time since Windows 8. The Fluent Design style has made its way to more corners of the system: many icons and titles of various windows have been updated, including Run.
