The first builds of Windows XP were welcomed by flying astronauts. How it looked

The stable versions of Windows XP included the Windows XP Tour, a welcome application that showed users the features and innovations of the update. However, such a utility was not created in an instant – in the second preliminary beta of the platform, known as Windows XP build 2419, a prototype of the same introductory Windows XP Tour, which was simply referred to as Flash, appeared. The Twitter feed @wowstartsnow showed what the app looked like.

As you can see in the GIF animation above, the application first displayed a pop-up animation of the text “HelloWorld”, then it was knocked down by a green flower similar to the ICQ logo, and then three pictures of astronauts flew on the screen – all of these animations were played to the music of Bathers At Asnierès from Castle & Schussler.

The build of Windows XP with index 2419, in which the Windows XP Tour prototype described above appeared, was released on January 23, 2001, and the stable release of the system took place 7 months later. It is noteworthy that even in the last stages of development, when the deadlines began to run out before the release of one of the largest system updates, Microsoft employees had a sense of humor and they spared no effort over time on such Easter eggs for beta testers.
