The first ‘Chameleon’ smartphone released in Europe

The release of the first “Chameleon” smartphone in Europe with a device that changes color depending on lighting conditions was announced today.

The announcement was made by realme and concerns the design of the realme 9 Pro Series.

The color, Sunrise Blue on both models of the 9 Pro Series, will have a phototropic effect, with the back completely changing color from blue to red in five seconds – being under the sun or under ultraviolet rays – and returns to blue when it is no longer exposed to sunlight. Thanks to the photo coloring and the photochromic organic materials, the back of the mobile phone can change its color when illuminated by ultraviolet rays.

According to the announcement, new innovations were used to achieve the “Chameleon effect” in the series smartphones: from the thickness of the layer and the shape that changes color, to the binding strength of the glass layers and the duration of the transition times.

More than 200 consecutive attempts were made to overcome the obstacles, including how to “change” the molecular structure so that the material changes color and fades quickly. Realme was the first to create an innovative double-layer photochromic process and added an organic composite layer, which not only guarantees the desired result, but also increases the color rendering rate by 40%.

Apart from the design, the realme 9 Pro Series, excels in design and weight, with only 7.99 mm thickness and 182 grams weight, making this series as the thinnest compared to all realme Number Series product series.

According to the latest report of Strategy Analytics, the models of the realme Number series, reached 40 million in consolidated shipments and respectively in Europe the models of the same series grew by 570% on an annual basis in 2021. Europe will also be the FIRST purchase that will announce the realme 9 Pro Series, in the coming days. Stay tuned.
