Honduran TGU Consulting Group has installed the country’s first cryptomat. The car was installed in the capital of the country, Tegucigalpa, in one of the office buildings.
The cryptomat is called “la bitcoinera” and allows customers to buy bitcoin and ether using the local currency – lempires. To buy cryptocurrencies, the user will have to provide a photo of their ID.
As the top manager of TGU noted, cryptocurrencies are quite popular in Honduras, but so far the main way to buy bitcoin has been personal meetings. This is quite inconvenient and rather dangerous – the crime rate in Honduras is very high. Therefore, a cryptomat will become a convenient and safe way to purchase cryptocurrencies.
“You had to do it face to face. First, find someone who wants to sell bitcoins, meet, bring cash. It is inconvenient and dangerous given the environment, ”said Juan Mayen.
Note that many software developers living in Honduras already receive their salaries in cryptocurrencies.
At the end of July, the total number of installed crypto ATMs in the world exceeded 24,000. ATMs became available to residents of 75 countries and are serviced by 42 manufacturers.
