The merger of Wind with NOVA, under the “umbrella” of United Group, is beginning to take shape.
Wind announced that its stores now have for sale the EON TV platform, marking – essentially – the first combined product energy of the two companies.
United Group intends to complete the merger of Wind and NOVA, under the NOVA brand, by the end of the year, providing “holistic” telecommunications and content services, ie fixed + internet + mobile + pay-TV.
The “battle” of pay-TV
Undoubtedly, the merger of WIND and NOVA intensifies the competition, both in telephony and pay-TV.
In the second field, NOVA and Wind are estimated to have around 390,000 – 400,000 subscribers.
For its part, OTE announced that, on March 31, 2022, the total number of TV subscribers reached 637,000.
In summary and according to the latest available official data of EETT, at the end of 2020, OTE had a market share in pay-TV between 45% -55%, NOVA 25% -35%, Vodafone 10% -15% and Wind 5% -10%.
With the arrival of United Group in Greece and the acquisition of NOVA and Wind, the competition “erupts” on pay-TV, focusing on sports content (Olympiacos leads to COSMOTE, which “lost” the Premier League that “moved” in NOVA), while the advent of new platforms such as Disney + adds momentum to the industry.
The “battle” of fixed telephony and broadband
The merger of Wind and NOVA creates new data in the market of fixed telephony + broadband connections.
According to analysts of the telecommunications market, the “new NOVA” seems to be the 2nd largest company in Greece in fixed telephony “behind” OTE.
Indicatively, it is mentioned that, in 2020, OTE, based on the retail revenues from the provision of telephony and internet services in a stable position, had a market share of approximately 63%.
Respectively, Vodafone’s share of fixed telephony revenues in 2020 was 15% to 20%, Wind 10% to 15% and Nova 5% to 10%.
As of yesterday, Wind is communicating the new commercial packages with the integration of the EON TV platform.
The basic EON package, which includes 75 channels, of which 49 are HD and more than 3,000 titles on demand and the EON + package, which includes 82 channels – along with the 7 Nova Sports channels – of which 56 are HD and more than 3,000 on-demand movie titles.
New customers can get the Fiber internet 100 and the program EON / EON + at 33 euros and 43 euros per month respectively, with the first 3 months for free, while existing customers can get the program EON / EON + at 10 euros and at 23 euros per month, respectively, with the first 3 months free.
