The first delivery of heavy weapons from Germany to Ukraine is a fact

German self-propelled howitzers have arrived in Ukraine for the first delivery of heavy weapons, as promised by Berlin, Ukraine’s defense minister said on Tuesday.

Ukraine has begged the West to send more and better artillery as the country runs out of ammunition for its existing Soviet-era arsenal and, of course, is a dwarf ahead of Russia.

“We have a replacement! … The German Panzerhaubitze 2000 with trained Ukrainian crews has joined the family of Ukrainian artillery,” Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said on social media.

The Panzerhaubitze 2000 is one of the most powerful artillery pieces in Bundeswehr stockpiles and can hit targets up to 40 km away.

Germany pledged in May to supply Kyiv with seven self-propelled grenade launchers, adding to five such artillery systems promised by the Netherlands.

Andriy Germak, head of the Ukrainian president’s office, published a list of other weapons promised by Germany, including 30 Gepard tanks and three MARS II multi-launcher launchers, as well as 500 Stinger missiles with shoulder launchers.

Kyiv has previously said it needed 1,000 shells, 500 tanks and 1,000 drones, among other heavy weapons, to repel Russian troops, who invaded the country on February 24 and occupied about 20 percent of its territory.

Other countries that supplied Ukraine with howitzer are the United States, Britain, France, Norway and Poland.
