The first fully electric aircraft will be shown at the MAKS-2021 exhibition in Russia

According to RIA Novosti, the first Russian aircraft with hybrid and all-electric propulsion systems will be shown at the MAKS-2021 International Aviation and Space Salon. They will become one of the main exhibits of the Baranov Central Institute of Aviation Motors (CIAM).

In particular, the institute intends to present the Yak-40LL aircraft with a hybrid power plant, which works in addition to two turbojet engines. The installation consists of a 500 kW (680 hp) electric motor, storage batteries and a turboprop engine with an electric generator. CIAM engineers claim that their electric motor is 5-20% more economical than analogues due to the use of cryogenic cooling and high-temperature superconducting technologies.

In addition to the Yak-40LL, the company will demonstrate for the first time an all-electric propulsion system for the Sigma-4 ultralight trainer aircraft. This electric motor has an output of 80 kW (109 hp) and is powered by a battery consisting of lithium-ion cells. CIAM will also show a power plant with an electric generator for vertical take-off and landing aircraft.

The press service of the enterprise noted that the hybrid and electric power plants are already undergoing flight tests. It will be possible to see them at a single exposition of the Research Center “Institute named after N.Ye. Zhukovsky “. The MAKS-2021 air show will be held from July 20 to 25 in the town of Zhukovsky near Moscow.
