Ethereum 2.0 developers have announced another update that brings the merger of the two versions of the network closer. The first ETH 2.0 Altair hard fork is planned for the 74240 Beacon Chain era.
According to an article by Ethereum 2.0 developer Danny Ryan, the Beacon Chain hard fork is scheduled for epoch 74240. According to beaconcha.in, as of the morning of September 29, the network is at epoch 67,900, so the update will be activated at main network after about a month, at the end of October. Ryan described the hard fork as follows:
“This update provides light client support for core consensus, cleans up Beacon Chain state incentives, fixes some validator incentive issues and raises validator penalties in line with EIP-2982.”
Back in the spring, Ethereum 2.0 developers announced plans to deploy Altair in July or August. However, like many other stages of network deployment, there is a delay in activating the update. Altair’s EIP-2982 introduces “punitive parameters” to ensure the economic security of the Proof-of-Stake consensus. Inaction penalties and validator misbehavior will increase after an update is deployed.
In the article, Ryan thanked the Ethereum client developers for their collaboration and collaboration over the past year. He said that on October 4, the blog will post details of all Altair releases on the mainnet, after which users should update the nodes.
