The European Union and the United States held the first high-level EU-US dialogue on Russia in Washington today. Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland represented the United States, and Enrique Mora, Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs of the European External Action Service, represented the European Union.
Enrique Mora and Victoria Nuland welcomed the excellent unity shown at the recent European Council, the Extraordinary Summit of NATO Leaders and the G7 Summit, the joint statement said.
“They have condemned the Kremlin’s unprovoked, unjustified and barbaric war against Ukraine, which has also been authorized by the Belarussian government. “and the European Union will work to monitor war crimes reports and share information gathered with allies, partners, international institutions and organizations, as appropriate, and use any available tools to hold perpetrators accountable.”
In addition, they discussed additional measures to further isolate Russia from US and EU economies and the international financial system.
At the same time, they stressed that they would continue to urge China not to circumvent or undermine sanctions against Russia and not to provide any form of support to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
Finally, it was decided that the next high-level meeting would take place at the end of 2022.
