The first quantities of lignite in the yard of the 5th Ptolemaida Unit

Shortly before 1 in the afternoon, the first quantities of lignite began to arrive at the yard of the 5th unit of Ptolemaida. The fossil fuel arrives via conveyor belts from the Mavropigi mine and from the South Field. According to Anestis Kefalas, head of PPC at the Ptolemaida plant under construction, in the next few days “the fuel loading and transport systems to the mills and the unit’s boiler will be tested, while the fuel ignition systems will then be tested”.

The quantities of lignite in the yard of the Station as we approach September will increase since the new unit will be put into trial operation in the middle of next month. Mr. Kefalas emphasized that “everything is progressing based on the planning that he wants in December for the unit to be put into commercial operation”.

At the construction site, technical executives of PPC, workers and technicians of the contractor company, who have been present since the beginning of the first construction works of the unit, did not hide their enthusiasm from today’s development.
