The first reactions of the European Union and NATO to the re-election of Trump

The European Union and NATO are sending messages of cooperation to the United States after Donald Trump won the US presidential election. Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Parliament President Charles Michel and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte congratulated Mr. Trump on his re-election, with related posts on X. In particular, Mrs. Von der Leyen wrote: “Let’s work together for a transatlantic partnership that continues to deliver for our citizens.” He added that “millions of jobs and billions in trade and investment, on each side of the Atlantic, depend on the dynamism and stability of our economic relationship.” He notes at the same time that he expects to work again with the new US president “to promote a strong transatlantic agenda.
