The items of humanitarian material loaded onto the ship for Turkey were organized and grouped by the working group of government officials, led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andreas Katsaniotis. This group was formed to implement this very purpose.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that “Greece continues to stand in solidarity with the Turkish people which is tested by the devastating earthquakes and responds to the request of the Turkish authorities for the provision of humanitarian aid”.
The plan foresees that the humanitarian aid collected in Thessaloniki from regions, municipalities, Church, schools, agencies of Thessaly and Northern Greece is transferred by road in the earthquake affected areas. For the rest of the regions, humanitarian aid is concentrated in Attica and will be transferred by boat. Also, the sanitary material will reach the affected areas by air. The highest goal is the continuous flow of humanitarian aid.
In addition, tomorrow, Thursday, pharmaceutical material is expected to be sent by air to Syria.
It is worth noting that the response of the Greeks to the needs of Turkey, but also of Syria, for humanitarian aid and provision of basic necessities is still huge and continuous.
