It was a historic evening as King Frederik of Denmark and a beaming Queen Mary hosted their kingdom's first Council of State (Statsrådsmiddag) dinner and welcomed members of the Cabinet to Amalienborg Palace. The Statsrådsmiddag is held once during every parliamentary term, but this was the first dinner since King Frederik X's accession to the throne last January.
As per tradition, the two royals posed smiling with government officials on the steps of Fane Hall. And Queen Mary caught everyone's attention with her elegance, showing off a recycled dress, worn in New York in 2007, embellished with a sparkling stomacher brooch from the precious ruby parure, which is now the symbol of her formal outfit.
Before dinner in the dining room, Taffelsalen, the two royals welcomed the Government and the Secretary of the Council of State to the Audiensgemakket. Among those present were also Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, who we saw on the balcony of Christiansborg during the coronation of King Frederik on January 14th, Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen, Finance Minister Nicolai Wammen and Minister of the Interior and Health Sophie Løhde. Members of the Royal Court staff were also invited to the dinner.
The Council of State is the body that deals with laws and important government measures. Meetings are held with the monarch and include the ratification of bills. The king is also informed about the bills that the government intends to put to the vote.

Just a week ago, the Danish royal couple organized their first gala dinner for representatives of the armed forces, the air force and the emergency management committee in Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen. The couple was also joined by the former queen Margrethe, 83, who last December, after 52 years of reign, surprisingly abdicated in favor of her son Frederik.
The appearance on the public scene of Queen Mary and King Frederik, smiling and apparently more united than ever, comes after the publication in the Spanish magazine at the beginning of March Hola and on the English one Hello, of the relevant news the mysterious and frequent trips of King Frederick of Denmark to Spain, made not for reasons related to his royal agenda but rather for private reasons. The last trip dates back to last February, Hola and Hello claim, thus fueling the old rumors about the royal's alleged relationship with the Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova who, after a break from social media, recently reactivated her Instagram profile from 80,000 followers. “There have been a few months in which I needed peace and quiet, but I'm already doing my best to be able to slowly return to my normal life and cope with my work commitments…”, he wrote in a post announcing his return.

The scandalous photos, published at the end of last October by the Spanish magazine Lecturas and which portrayed the then Prince Frederick in the company of Genoveva Casanova in the streets of Madrid, had gone around the world, arousing indignation and causing the Danish throne to tremble. The Spanish magazine, author of the scoop, had photographed the couple first together at an art exhibition, then at dinner in the “El Corral de la Morería” restaurant, in the heart of the city. And then the next day, the then Prince Frederik was filmed leaving Genoveva's house, dragging a trolley. Genoveva has always denied a romantic relationship with the current king of Denmark, speaking of simple friendship. According to Spanish media, the two met during a hunting trip, a passion of both, and have known each other for years.

The Danish royal couple, in any case, continues to flaunt union and complicity and sail far away. In June, according to the latest news, the two royals will spend their 20th wedding anniversary away from home, traveling north by ship. During the cruise they will visit some countries including Sweden, Norway, the Faroe Islands and Greenland with the aim of strengthening relations between the Nordic monarchies. The Royal Yacht Dannebrog will serve as your transportation and residence during this (love?) getaway.
