The former judge in the case “Qatargate“, Michel Clez, will be a candidate in the parliamentary elections in Belgium in June 2024. Michel Clez, 68, resigned from the Qatargate case in June 2023 citing conflict of interest, recently retired and now he decided to get involved in Belgian politics.
“The former Kattargate investigator, now retired, will be the third candidate for Parliament”, his party “Défi” announced this morning during a press conference. He will be a federal parliamentary candidate in third place on the Défi list in Brussels. The Défi (Democrat Federaliste Independent) party is positioned in the center.
It is recalled that the reason he resigned Michel Clez from the Qatargate case is that his son and the son of the Belgian involved in the case MEP Marie Arenathey had a medical cannabis company together since 2018. Last July the Belgian authorities found in the house of Marie Arena's son 280,000 euros in cash. Marie Arena has so far not been questioned by the Belgian authorities, despite her relations with the alleged “mastermind” of the case Antonio Panther. The Brussels prosecutor's office has not submitted a request to European Parliament to lift her immunity, as she did with MEPs Tarabella and Coccolino.
