The French National Assembly will today consider a proposal to promote Alfred Dreyfus, a Jewish officer who was unjustly condemned in the late 19th century for helping Germany to spy on France to promote to the rank of Brigadier. It is an “act of remedial” with the aim of completing his rehabilitation, 130 years after his conviction, said former Prime Minister Gabriel Atal, who submitted the law proposal as a Member of Parliament. And this in a context in which “the anti -Semitism that hit Alfred Dreyfus does not belong to a past that has elapsed,” adds the Renaissance president, the party founded by President Emmanuel Macron, presenting the motives that led to him.
