The French Labor Minister was caught… solving a crossword in a National Assembly debate on the pension

To solve crossword puzzle during a debate in the French National Assembly on the reform of the pension system in his country, which has sparked nationwide protests, the Minister of Labour her of France Olivier Dussot.

“I did something stupid”the 44-year-old centre-right politician admitted on Friday (17/2) speaking to the television station BFMTV.

Amid national strikes and protests, the government’s plans to raise the retirement age dominate the French news, with debate in the National Assembly continuing for two weeks now.

In one of the many recesses of parliamentary sessions, Dussot said he took the crossword and then continued to solve it after the speeches had started again.

Conservative MP Aurelien Pradier rebuked the minister – who has a central role in championing the reforms, both in the National Assembly and in public – from the floor of Parliament on Thursday.

He also urged the minister, as reported by the Athens News Agency, “not to solve a crossword puzzle, as you just did, while the National Assembly is debating.”

This, he said, is a fundamental matter of respect for parliament.
