The FSB of the Russian Federation conducted searches in the case of cashing out criminal funds through cryptocurrencies

On the morning of November 17, the Russian Federal Security Service blocked access to the Senator business center in St. Petersburg. A cryptocurrency exchanger was searched in one of the offices.

According to Fontanka, citing its own sources, this cryptocurrency exchanger was used to cash out criminal funds. The total amount of cash withdrawn exceeded 1.5 billion rubles. Note that the searches took place not only in St. Petersburg, but also in Moscow. The tenants of the premises in the Senator business center could not get into their offices until 13:00.

So far, there are few details, but the criminal case on which the searches were carried out was instituted under Article 171 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation on illegal business. According to the article, the maximum sentence is five years in prison. However, it is possible that in the course of the searches they will find evidence for the presentation of charges in other crimes.

In the spring of this year, law enforcement agencies of Ukraine closed a large-scale network of illegal cryptocurrency exchangers with a monthly turnover of $ 1 million.At the end of October, the FSB of Russia presented a draft order for public discussion, according to which department employees will be able to send inquiries to organizations working with the CFA, including cryptocurrencies. to combat corruption.
