The G7 countries today called on Belarus to end “immediately” the ongoing migration crisis at the EU’s borders, accusing Minsk of trying to “divert attention” from violations of international law and human rights in the which is served.
In a statement, the foreign ministers of Britain, France, the United States, Canada, Germany, Italy and Japan, as well as the EU, “condemned the Belarusian regime’s illegal immigration through its borders.”
“These cruel actions endanger people’s lives,” they said.
“We urge the regime to immediately end the aggressive campaign of exploitation in order to avoid further deaths and new suffering,” the statement added.
“The actions of the Belarusian regime are an attempt to divert attention from its persistent disregard for international law, fundamental freedoms and human rights, including those of its own people,” the foreign ministers said.
The G7 calls on Minsk to offer international organizations “immediate and unimpeded access to humanitarian aid”. It also expressed its solidarity with Poland, Lithuania and Latvia, victims of the “provocative exploitation of irregular migration”.
