The G7 finance ministers of the major Western economies today warned Russia of “massive” economic consequences if it chooses to invade Ukraine, to whose economy they have also promised immediate and decisive support.
“The continuing concentration of Russian troops on Ukraine’s border is a matter of grave concern. We, the G7 finance ministers, reiterate our readiness to act swiftly and decisively to support the Ukrainian economy,” a joint statement said.
“Any further military aggression by Russia against Ukraine will be met with a swift, coordinated and dynamic response,” they added. “We are ready to impose collective economic and financial sanctions that will have a massive and direct impact on the Russian economy.”
