“The geb at the airport grabbed me.” NEXTA showed Protasevich’s messages before arrest

Before leaving Athens, an unknown person tried to photograph the documents of NEXTA founder Roman Protasevich. This is reported by the Telegram channel NEXTA and publishes a screenshot with Protasevich’s messages.

The opposition blogger’s last messages before the arrest say that at the airport of Athens, from where Protasevich flew to Vilnius, he was watched by a man who gave the impression that he was a state security officer: “The geb at the airport was grabbing me for a hike.”

The suspicious man tried to photograph Protasevich’s documents, and then, when his turn came to check his documents, he simply left.

  • Earlier today, on May 23, a Ryanair plane on the Athens-Vilnius flight was urgently landed in Belarus, allegedly due to a message about mining. The founder of the largest Belarusian opposition Telegram channel NEXTA Roman Protasevich, who was on board, was detained.
  • The leader of the Belarusian opposition Svetlana Tikhanovskaya called the detention of Protasevich an operation of Lukashenka’s special services.
