The German consulate in Istanbul was closed due to an attack threat

Closed due to increased threat to attack will remain today, Wednesday (1/2) the consulate of Germany in Constantinopleas announced by the German Foreign Ministry.

Germany has warned its citizens in Istanbul that the risk of attack is particularly high in the central Beyoğlu district and around Taksim Square.

The ministry said, as reported by the Athens News Agency, that the move to close the consulate was made after an “assessment by the security authorities” and called on German citizens to be especially careful and to avoid places where there is a concentrated crowd.

Germany, Sweden, Norway and Denmark, as well as the US, had already warned their citizens last week of an increased risk of attack in Turkey. The US on Monday updated its warning specifically mentioning Istanbul.

THE Turkeyfor its part, has warned its citizens of attacks in Europe and the United States.
