The girls? They took their place in the Football Almanac

L’Illustrated Football Almanac published by Panini is the Bible of those who love the protagonists of the ball. Life, works and miracles: everything has been there for eighty years. Until a few years ago, football – even in his bible – was the prerogative of men only. But in a short time many things have changed. And women’s football has gained space, consideration, credibility.

This year the Almanac – precisely in this perspective – further enriches the female content. Among the novelties of this edition, the list of all the matches played by the senior national team coached by Milena Bertolini – and in the summer involved in the women’s European Championship – and the expansion of the part dedicated to clubs, with the results of the Champions League and the analysis of the two main national championships.

It is a long and tiring story, that of women’s football in Italy, which finally finds a friendly territory and sees its efforts rewarded. In the Almanac 2020 on the cover there was also Sara Gama, captain of Juventus and of the national team, recently also vice-president of AIC, the Italian Footballers’ Association. The emotional impact and the great ratings (up to 7 million viewers in Rai commentary) obtained by the Italians at the 2019 World Cup in France were fundamental., when the national team won the hearts of the Italians. So no one is surprised if today fans – leafing through the Illustrated Almanac – pass from the curriculum of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to that of his colleague Valentina Giacinti, or from that of Cristiano Ronaldo to that of Cristiana Girelli.

These are the days when the collection ofPanini Album, 2020-21 season, now in its 60th edition: 132 pages, 748 stickers to glue, many sections, with the novelty of the double page reserved for the National Singers which in 2021 celebrates 40 years of activity. Last year the new idea was that of the top 11 stickers (both male and female) awarded at the AIC football Gala.

There were three pages for the women’s Serie A, with the stickers of the 12 teams of the tournament, as well as a series of information on the clubs and images of the captains. This is also the case this year, great space will be dedicated to women’s football, a movement that is growing rapidly in Italy: 40% increase in registration requests, while the members are now 24,000, compared to less than 3,000 twenty years ago.
