The Government approves a subsidy of 430 euros for the unemployed who have exhausted their unemployment benefit

The Council of Ministers approved this Tuesday a subsidy for the unemployed who exhausted all unemployment benefits during the months of confinement with an amount of 430 euros for three months, according to government sources.

The measure is one of those demanded by the unions already in the declaration of the first state of alarm together with the set of initiatives launched in March. With the expected increase in employment regulations this fall due to the second wave of infections, the government has taken the step. The unions UGT and CCOO demanded in writing that the Government react to this second wave with a new set of measures to complement those already deployed so far.

However, both organizations have denounced that the subsidy is “late and bad”, because it reaches fewer people than originally agreed and is implemented with a long delay. The agreement it reached, you understand, has run into an initiative that is much more restricted in scope. It extended the aid to 550,000 people, more than twice as many beneficiaries as the one launched by the Government and contemplated the possibility of extending these benefits in the event of possible outbreaks.

“If the agreement reached for the first state of alarm that ended in June is going to be launched in November and with a very limited scope, CCOO and UGT wonder if it will be necessary to establish additional measures for the new state of alarm that it runs until next May, “the unions warned in a joint statement.

The new benefit is incompatible with the minimum income, the inclusion income, the social wage or similar aid from any public administration. It will amount to an amount of 80% of the IPREM (430 euros) for a period of three months. According to calculations by the Ministry of Labor, it could reach some 250,000 unemployed, since it is aimed at unemployed workers who between March 14 and June 30 exhausted their unemployment and also suffer aggravating circumstances such as not being able to find work due to the new health measures deployed by the administrations and the slowdown in economic activity.

Along with this, the Council of Ministers has also approved an unemployment benefit for technical or auxiliary personnel at events or cultural works with which they hope to reach more than 10,000 workers, reports EFE.

The green light has also been given to the extension, until January 31, 2021, of the extraordinary economic benefit for unemployment for artists in public shows.

This expansion, which will cover some 35,567 workers, will have an estimated cost of 95.4 million
