The government has decided to restrict flights from Brazil and South Africa for the next two weeks to stop the arrival in Spain of the new strains of Covid that exist in these two countries, according to the Government spokesman, MarÃa Jesus Montero, after the meeting of the Council of Ministers.

The measure will take effect at 9:00 am this Wednesday, February 3 and will be in effect until February 17. During this period, only Spaniards, citizens of Andorra, or residents of both countries who make a stopover in Spain will be allowed to enter, as long as they do not leave the transit area of the airport where they are.

These restrictions may be extended depending on how the pandemic evolves and, according to Montero, they are in line with “the EU recommendations”. last December, flights with the United Kingdom were also restricted after a new strain appeared in this country. Since then, only people with Spanish nationality or who reside in our country are allowed to enter from this country.

Yesterday, Monday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arancha González Laya, had already announced that the Government was studying the adoption of measures to prevent the arrival of the new strains detected in other countries.
