The Government warns about the “indiscriminate” use of antigens as a “passport” to Christmas gatherings

With the arrival of the Christmas holidays and the possible sale of antigen tests in pharmacies, they will have the option of taking the test before going to a lunch or dinner with the family. However, the Generalitat wanted to make it clear that these tests do not imply a “passport” to be able to access these meetings with the guarantee that there will be no coronavirus infections, so they reject their “indiscriminate” use, as explained by the Secretary General from the Marc Ramentol Health Department.

Although he acknowledged that the tests are used in outpatient clinics to improve screening, given their efficiency, he recalled the importance of the process of obtaining the test until the follow-up of the contacts of the positives as part of the established protocol to prevent the spread of Covid- 19. Ramentol assured that “we need to celebrate this Christmas, but it will be in a context of pandemic” and warned about the “script twists” that mark the epidemiological indicators and that mark the management of the de-escalation and of the Government’s specific plan for parties.

The Minister of the Interior, Miquel SÃ mper, assured that in the next few days these “variables” will be taken into account to combine the economic reactivation together with the sanitary restrictions. Specifically, the speed of contagion, which is “relatively” stabilized after growing in a week, and hospital admissions due to coronavirus. As these epidemiological indicators evolve, the Generalitat will act to guarantee the de-escalation phases in the face of pressure from various economic sectors that see the Christmas campaign in danger.

In this sense, the Government does not propose to retreat in the measures in force and close the bars and restaurants, although the control by the Mossos d’Esquadra and the local police will continue. However, SÃ ¢ mper pointed out that not even the sum of all the agents, municipal and autonomous assigned “allow us to control” all the restaurants in Catalonia.

On the other hand, Health has launched a monitoring program for the population that may suffer complications if it suffers from Covid-19. The project made it possible to detect around 1,800,000 considered to be at risk. For Adrià Comella, director of the Catalan Health Service (CatSalut) “the particularity of this program is that we are targeting a significant number of people who perhaps, themselves, do not consider themselves at risk if they suffer from Covid-19 , but they are. ” The groups have identified taking into account different sociodemographic and morbidity variables, including important pathologies such as neoplasia, or alcohol dependence, hyperlipidaemia, smoking, obesity or diabetes mellitus. Another parameter analyzed has been the incidence of the virus by age. In this case, it has been determined that the groups with the most cases are those over 79 years old and those over 30 at 59 years old.

The project works under a preventive strategy to prevent these people from becoming infected. They have been determined to be risky because they are more likely to be admitted to a hospital facility. Under this idea, it is expected that, if this group is prevented from becoming infected, it will have 80% less impact on the system, which is what was suffered during the first wave.

Also this Monday, the minister of Treball, Afers Socials and Famílies, Chakir el Homrani, defended the work carried out by the administration in the parliamentary commission on residences and denied that there was an order not to transfer residents to hospitals. He also recognized that the residences were not prepared to face a pandemic.
