At the age of 92, the Brazilian architect Paulo Menzis da Hosa passed away.

The cause of his death was not clarified by his family, who confirmed his death. The Brazilian Council for Architecture and Urban Planning issued a statement tribute to a “bold iconoclast”.

Born in 1928 in Vitoria, in the state of Espirito Santo (southeast), he began his career in 1955, but was not recognized abroad until much later, from the 2000s onwards, according to AMPE.

In Sao Paulo, the largest metropolitan area in Latin America, signed his most emblematic works, in particular the renovation of the Gallery and Museum of the Portuguese Language.

Outside of Brazil, his own conception was the new headquarters of the Carriage Museum in Lisbon, a state-of-the-art space that opened in 2015.

In 2006, became the second Brazilian to receive the Pritzker Prize, after the legendary Oscar Niemager, the father of Brazil, the futuristic capital of Brazil, to whom he was awarded in 1988. This award is considered equivalent to the Nobel Prize in the field.

He was also honored with other important honors, such as the Praemium Imperiale, the Japanese Nobel Prize in Arts in 2016, or the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Gold Medal in 2017.
