The pound sterling hit an all-time low against the dollar last week. The euro is at its lowest in twenty years. The sharp declines in currencies in Europe are the result of inflation rates that hit record and which are followed by billionaire packages announced by European governments to try to contain the rise in prices.
Both high inflation and high spending increase countries’ risk and drive capital away. With money flowing out, the dollar supply decreases and the euro and pound fall against the US dollar.
