The Great Debate: with the Americanas case, see if the moment is public or private fixed income

The billionaire scandal in Americanas raised important questions about management in private companies. After the disclosure of the leak of tens of billions of reais, the retailer’s share and debt securities melted. And in that, thousands of investors lost money.

This episode brought up an old discussion. For the fixed income investor, how to choose between public debt securities – which normally have lower interest rates, but are safer – and private debt securities – which even have a little more interest, but are just as subject to lightning and thunder.

In The Great Debate-Investments this Monday (23), on the one hand, Gabriel Lansac, a partner at Investo, who believes that the moment is one of caution and, therefore, prefers public securities. On the other hand, Luis Nazário, credit manager at Principal Claritas, who believes that it is possible to separate the wheat from the chaff and, therefore, it is a good idea to invest in private debt.
