The great journeys of Queen Elizabeth II, 70 years of reign around the world

Riding an elephant in India, among the indigenous people in Polynesia, as well as among the emirs in the Middle East: the Queen Elizabeth II she has been flawless in every situation, even during her countless travels. Well 270 trips to 110 countries across six continents in seven decades of reign which make it the longest-lived sovereign in UK history too the monarch who has ever traveled the most.

The first, in Kenya, was certainly the most challenging, at least on a personal level. It was the 1952Elizabeth was still “only” a princess, and thousands of miles from the palace she learned of the death of his father George VI, passed away in his sleep, due to a thrombosis. It was her husband Prince Philip who communicated it to her while she was walking in her garden in Treetops Hotela now closed hotel in Nyeri’s Aberdares National Park.

The travel map of Queen Elizabeth

The official visit to Kenya was the first of a very long series in spectacular places, which now also tells interactive map created by Esri, a company that deals with geolocation, on the occasion of the Platinum Jubilee (you can see it by clicking here), which retraces its tours around the world and the places it has visited over the years, even several times. Starting with Canadawhere Queen Elizabeth has been 27 times (the country she has traveled to the most), and then theAustralia where instead it was the protagonist of 19 official visits. She was also, in her own way, a pioneer: the first monarch to visit Russia, China and Malaysia, and one of the few people in the world to meet as many as 13 US presidents. Finally, to official state trips, starting with those in the Commonwealth territories such as Tuvalu in Polynesia or Caribbean islands such as Barbados (before they became independent), you have joined other equally strategic ones.

On all that accomplished early 1979, when he left for the Middle East with stops in Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Oman. The Khomeinist revolution had just ended and the eyes of the world were all on her, curious to understand how a woman from that part of the world would get along: Elizabeth, even then, showed that she was equal to her. It seems that to pave the way between the Arab princes was the common passion for horse racing, but also her desire to get involved: during this journey with Prince Philip, he rode a camel for the first time.

In Italy, however, Queen Elizabeth has been 5 timesthe last in 2014 for 24 hours full of commitments between the Quirinale, with the then president Giorgio Napolitano, and the audience in the Vatican with Pope Francis.

It arrived in our country with a flight British Airwaysbut on many of his trips, at least until 1997, he traveled aboard the Britannia: the splendid and luxurious yacht of the English Royal Family, inaugurated by the Queen herself in 1953 and then decommissioned due to too high costs and become a tourist attraction in the port of Leith, Edinburgh.
