The need to establish combined and more effective policies to deal with and manage the immigration issue in the European Union, with an emphasis on the first receiving countries such as Greece, was underlined by the member of the Greek delegation to the European Committee of the Regions (CoR), Municipal Councilor in the Municipality of Alexandroupoli, Dimitris Petrovic, at the “CIVEX” Commission conference that met on July 8 and 9 in Vilnius, Lithuania. In the CoR committee whose subjects are “Citizenship, Governance, Institutional and External Affairs” the issue of “Integration of immigrants into Local Societies” was discussed, as immigration is a dynamic phenomenon with increasing flows, which under different conditions directly affects states members.
