The Gucci dynasty, explained to understand Ridley Scott’s film

The hype for Ridley Scott’s new film on Maurizio Gucci’s murder is officially skyrocketing. After the first images from the set of House of Gucci portraying Lady Gaga – who she plays in the film Patrizia Reggiani, instigator of the murder of what at the time was now her ex-husband – while in the alleys of the center of Milan he takes a panzerotto with an Adam Driver transformed into Maurizio Gucci, killed on March 27, 1995, there are also photos that reveal a Jared Leto unrecognizable in the shoes of Paolo Gucci, Maurizio’s cousin.

Too many names to keep up with, you say. True. So let’s try to reconstruct thegenealogical tree of the Gucci family, which has developed over time as a real one Dynasty Italian style.

Let’s start right from the beginning – we will be quick, we promise – with the one who gave life to everything that the name Gucci has represented over the years. That is Guccio Gucci.

Guccio Gucci.

It is 1921 and Guccio Gucci, at the time forty years old, founded a small artisan leather goods company in Florence, which became famous over time for having introduced materials such as linen, hemp, jute and bamboo into the production, for having created the famous brand with the crossed G and designed the moccasin with the horsebit. Guccio has five children: Ugo (who had been a black shirt and had participated in the march on Rome), Grimalda, Aldo, Basque e Rodolfo, considered the handsome of the family and became a famous actor by the name of Maurizio d’Ancona.

Maurizio D’Ancona.

After the death of the founder, his sons Ugo, Grimalda and Vasco leave the company. Aldo, which in House of Gucci is interpreted by Al Pacino, e Rodolfo, in the movie Jeremy Irons, they take command of it and make it famous all over the world. These are the years of “Quality is remembered long time after, price is forgotten” (quality is remembered for a long time, price is forgotten), the opening of boutiques in New York, London, Palm Beach and Paris proliferate.

But there’s a problem: Aldo and Rodolfo argue furiously with each other. To make matters worse is the third generation: Aldo’s three sons – Giorgio, Paolo (in the film played precisely by Jared Leto) e Roberto – and Rodolfo’s son, Maurizio (in the movie Adam Driver). In 1982 Paolo decides to leave the group and to launch his own independent brand using the Gucci brand: he will be sanctioned by the parent company and definitively ousted, after several decades of diatribes. As if that weren’t enough, his father Aldo is sentenced to one year in prison in the United States for tax evasion. Discussions about brand control are on the agenda, so much so that in the late 1980s nearly half of Gucci is sold to an investment fund.

But it is the 1995 the year that shocked the Gucci family, when on March 27 Maurizio Gucci is assassinated in Milan. And it is precisely around this story that Ridley Scott’s film revolves. Maurizio had married Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga in the film) in ’72, after having met her years before at a party in the Milanese city. Beautiful and charming, Reggiani immediately attracted his attention. “Introduce me to the woman who looks like Liz Taylor,” he had told a mutual friend.

The love story lasts thirteen years, with the birth of two daughters: Allegra e Alessandra, which have always kept out of the spotlight. Then comes the divorce after Maurizio leaves Patrizia for a younger woman, Paola Franchi, telling her he was leaving for a short business trip to Florence and never returning. Patrizia Reggiani, who for many years presented herself as Patrizia Gucci, by virtue of her husband’s surname, will then be sentenced as the perpetrator of the crime. A huge problem for the real Patrizia Gucci, Maurizio’s cousin and Paolo’s daughter, who years later will tell how this case of homonymy has greatly damaged her.
But if you think that the Gucci family tree has ended here, you are wrong. You remember Giorgio? One of Aldo’s three sons and brother of Roberto and Paolo. Behold, he in turn had two sons, Alessandro and another) Guccio Gucci, which after the sale of the Gucci brand in the 1990s, have continued to engage in an industry that is part of their DNA. Thus they found Experiences srl, a company of luxury accessories and bags based in Scandicci. But if the name doesn’t tell you anything, you may remember the very first bags that the two brothers produced, the “To Be G», Including a large crocodile shopping bag, a limited edition piece with a basic value of eight thousand euros (up). Unfortunately the short life of the company is studded with legal battles with Kering, for the use of logos that recalled the name of Gucci, of which the French group owned and owned.

Finally, we come to one of the youngest of the dynasty: Drusilla Gucci, which most know for its participation in theIsland of the Famous 2021. Very young – 26 years soon -, she is there daughter of Stefania and Uberto Gucci, and grandson of Roberto, one of Aldo’s three sons. In other words, it is the great-grandson of Guccio Gucci founder of the maison. Fashion lover – could it be otherwise? – and star of social networks, Drusilla has a degree in languages and is a model by profession. Yet, despite being part of one of the most prominent families in the fashion world, not much is known about her. It will mean that we will learn to know her, perhaps, as a shipwreck of the longest-running adventure game on Italian television.
