Hamas chief Ismail Haniya will visit Tehran today to meet with Iranian officials, a day after the UN Security Council adopted a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Iran's Press TV reported. Iran supports the Palestinian organization in the war with Israel. This will be Haniya's second visit to Iran since the outbreak of war on October 7. Nasser Kanaani, a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, called yesterday's Security Council resolution a “positive step.” “A more important step is to take effective action to implement” the resolution, Kanaani added. Hamas also welcomed the Security Council's decision, but added that the ceasefire should be permanent.
