The heads of the Russian and US delegations in Geneva did not shake hands either

Without their leaders exchanging handshakes, they continue, in camera, the US-Russia talks in Geneva on security guarantees. According to the photos that were made public, from the beginning of the meeting, the leaders enter the room and sit opposite each other at two separate tables.

Then the leaders, the Russian Undersecretary of State Sergei Ryabkov and US Undersecretary of State Wendy Sherman go to stand in front of the flags for the standard photo, reports the Russian news agency TASS and the Athenian News Agency.

The two high-ranking diplomats, however, preferred to keep their social distances. Ryabkov and Sherman did not shake hands or choose any other form of greeting, such as those introduced during the pandemic. Although in previous meetings in Geneva, for example, they greeted each other jokingly with their elbows about the photos of the protocol.

On the eve of the talks, Ryabkov said in an interview with TASS that he did not expect to hear a clear position from the American side regarding the Russian proposals, nor any explanations for its position. At the same time, he expressed serious doubts regarding their readiness United States for such a dialogue.
