Google has unveiled a new generation of device called the Nest Hub, a smart home control center that combines the functions of a smart speaker with a display.
The updated device offers several important improvements over the original Nest Hub, which debuted in 2018, including a redesigned design, a faster SoC, and a louder speaker.
However, the biggest change is the ability to track the user’s sleep without the need for cameras or any wearable devices. Sleep periods are monitored and the user’s sleep quality is rated. This is achieved through the integration of the Soli sensor pioneered in the Pixel 4 and 4 XL in 2019. Also, Soli technology improves gesture control.
The 7-inch LCD faucet with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels remains unchanged. The device still does not have a camera, and video calls are not supported. According to Google, the bass in the device has improved by 50%, which is achieved by increasing the speaker diameter to 43.5 mm. It was the speaker that at one time became the main reason for complaints from users of the original Nest Hub. Voice control has also been improved with a third microphone and a dedicated AI chip. Google emphasizes that over time, the device will learn to process most of the user’s voice commands without going online.
The new Google Nest Hub can be pre-ordered starting today for $ 99.99, with open sales starting March 30, 2021. Four body colors are available: pink, light and dark gray, as well as a new light blue version.
