The high court of Kenya ruled that the World of World, previously known as Worldcoin, deleted the biometric data of local users within seven days, including images of faces and scans of the retina.

Judge Aburili Roselyne explained that in September 2023, the World Cryptopropted, the co -founder of the OpenAi Director General Sam Altman, illegally collected the biometric data of Kenysk through the ORB device. Thus, the company violated their right to inviolability of private life and laws on the protection of personal data from 2019, Roselin noted.

The judge ordered that the deletion of information occur under the supervision of the management of the data protection commissar (ODPC). The World of World is prohibited in the future to collect and process any biometric data of the inhabitants of Kenya. The court also issued an order that cancel the decision of Worldcoin Foundation and its agents collect biometric data without an adequate assessment for a possible violation of user rights. Thus, the court granted the lawsuit against World, which was filed by Katiba Institute together with the non -profit organization ICJ Kenya.

“The court made a fair decision, since even in the digital era constitutional human rights, especially the right to inviolability of private life, must be observed,” said ICJ Kenya.

In 2023, the Kenya authorities already suspended the work of World in the country, doubting the legality of collecting biometric data. However, in June last year, the Kenyan authorities stopped investigating the activities of the crypto project, so World resumed the business in Kenya.
