An interesting story with a fire demonstrated the amazing survivability of the GeForce RTX 2070 Super video card. German retailer Caseking, which sells PC components, has launched the Kill my case program, somewhat reminiscent of the famous TV show “Wheelbarrow to Pump”. Only instead of a “wheelbarrow” – a PC. And one of the objects of the next “pumping” was a computer that had been in the fire. As you can see in the photo, there is not much to tune in it, but experts tried to identify and save the surviving components. And they did it!
The well-known YouTube enthusiast and overclocker Der8auer was invited to shoot this episode. He quickly determined that the processor (AMD Ryzen 7 2700X) survived the fire – it was protected by a liquid cooling system, so there was no direct contact of the CPU with the fire. The memory, power supply and motherboard were out of luck – they burned out. But the video card, the appearance of which did not cause much optimism, retained its performance.
Of course, to bring it to a more or less normal state, it was necessary to disassemble and clean everything, but after checking with a multimeter and installing a new cooling system with liquid nitrogen, it worked.
This 3D card turned out to be an MSI RTX 2070 Super Gaming series with three fans. All its key components are voltage regulators, memory chips, GPUs, etc. – did not suffer.
Der8auer even joked that looking at such a video card, no one should complain about the hard temperature regime of the video adapter. If he survived the fire, then he will survive any video games all the more.
